Can a paintbrush cure cancer?

Of course not, but it can be a powerful tool for recovery.

While undergoing bone marrow treatment for leukemia at City of Hope, I picked up a paintbrush for the first time and began to paint my hopes, fears, and joy at being alive. Now, after 13 years, I am still an avid painter who embraces color and enjoys painting both abstract and impressionistic landscapes.

My first show at the George Stern Gallery in Los Angeles celebrated my journey through leukemia. I sold 13 paintings and raised $50,000, all of which was donated to City of Hope. I have continued to donate both paintings and the proceeds from my sales to charitable organizations that support cancer research.

Much of my early work called into question many of life's ironies and man's response to his enviornment. In particular, my painting, "Wailing Wall"— a response to 9/11—was accepted by the Skirball Museum as part of their permanent collection.

Since moving to Santa Fe, my work has become focused on natural, organic themes, reflecting the unique beauty of the land and region's traditions. My latest works—some of which appear in the Santa Fe Soul Gallery here on this site— encourage viewers to find their own truths within the bold colors and the richness of the organic forms that define the American Southwest.

My work has been variously represented at the following galleries:

Santa Fe Community gallery

Jennie Colley Gallery, Santa Fe

Owings-Dewey in Santa Fe, NM

Sandalwood Gallery, Lauguna Beach, CA

The Arts and Antique Show, Los Angeles, CA

The George Stern Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (one-woman show)

Pepperdine University, (juried show) Malibu, CA

My work has also been shown in galleries in Assisi, Italy, Nerac, France, and Lake Como, Italy
